You have seen these headlines, right? Are they real? Can one person clicking on you Adsense links really earn you a $100? Maybe, maybe not. Most of the top paying keyword lists are a big crock of S**T! There is no doubt that the adsense program is one of the most successful marketing programs ever created. And yes webmasters are making money with Google Adsense but how much and how are they doing it is the real question.


There are too many scam artists who are trying to rip you off with some so called “top paying keyword list” Don’t fall for it! Yes some keywords are worth $5 $10 $50 or even a $100 because that is what the advertiser is willing to pay Google to display those ads. It doesn’t mean that is what you are going to make. Think about it, if a company is willing to pay $100 per click don’t you think they are going to be watching the numbers pretty close. For that price they want highly qualified leads not thousands of people clicking on it and running up there tab. 1000 clicks at $100 each is $100,000. Now if that company gets $500,000 in business, fine but if they get $500 in business for that return then as the Donald says “someone will be fired!”


In the course of building several websites and using Google Adsense I made several discoveries. I put together a crappy little website and that crappy little website earned me $100 in a month. Not big money but pretty surprising since I didn’t have that many visitors. Don’t believe the screen shots showing you making hundreds a day and thousands a week. It could happen but those screen shots have been altered to inflate the income. Putting these discoveries into use on other websites have proven they work. There is no reason you can’t make a $1000-$3000 a month over a period of time. I am not going to kid you. It takes work but once you get the ball rolling you will see your income rise. It is one thing to sell you a list of “top paying keywords” its another to tell you how to set up your websites and how to drive traffic to it.


There are steps anyone can take can take to increase their adsense earnings such as learning about the why the best placement for your ads is above the fold, what colors work best and how easy it is to match them to your site, but it can take lots of trial and error or you can learn from someone who has already tested it out. For example did you know–Why you don’t need thousands of visitors to your website (you might be surprised) and how only 2 or 3 visitors a day can actually make you more money than 1000 visitors. You should learn why you want to make your visitors click and move on and why you shouldn’t care that they don’t stay. This is the exact opposite of every article you have ever read about creating “sticky” sites.


Yes there is money to be made with google adsense and top paying keywords can make you more but don?t get ripped off by paying too much for some ?magic list?. There is no free lunch.

Obviously running your own website can be a time consuming and sometimes slightly costly affair and so it is only fair that you should expect to get something back for your efforts. Google Adsense is a program designed to allow webmasters to make a little bit of profit out of those that visit their websites by exposing them to targeted text based adverts.

The idea is that you sign up online and then install the code Google give you on your own site somewhere you think that it will draw attention without messing up the styling of your site. Whenever someone visits your site from that moment on Google will check out the context of the page that they’re viewing and display adverts along a similar theme. If one of your visitors clicks on the advert then you will get money for that click which is based on a percentage of the fee that the advertiser will in turn pay to Google. At the end of the month Google then sends you a cheque for the months earnings.

So far, so good; there are many readers of Click who may be bored of getting nothing back from their website and Adsense is a way to improve the situation however there are a few things to bear in mind:

1) Pages with single theme topics are highly effective.

2) Targeting effectiveness increases over time.
3) Highly descriptive website file names tend to improve context.
4) Domain names that clearly specify what you are all about tend to improve context

5) Although the adverts are targeted they don’t rotate too well which will lead to frequent visitors to your site viewing the same adverts over and over therefore reducing your click through rate.

The amount of money you earn really depends primarily on how much advertisers are bidding for on related keywords. For example, if you were to run a site talking about mens sexual health you could make an absolute killing on AdSense because of the high level of competition between companies bidding for advertising space in this market on the Internet. If, in comparison you ran a site that focused on a real niche market with little competition the advertisers would generally be paying Google a lot less per click so you in turn would receive less.

Not all websites can join Google Adsense; they do have to be approved first and meet a number of policy guidelines which dictate the number of adverts that can be placed on a specific site, the type of page you can put adverts on and so on.

The main disadvantage I can see from Google Adsense is that when a user clicks on an advert they are taken away from your site so it is certainly not suitable for a site that is already being used for commercial purposes. Not only would you be displaying your competitors adverts but in addition if one of your potential customers did want to compare products they would be immediately be taken away from yours! PPC Advertising – The First Step In A SEO Marketing Campaign

Often, sites view seo and PPC marketing as exclusive marketing techniques. Each marketing method has its advocates. In reality, both have a place in the Internet marketing process. If you intend to pursue a major seo effort, a PPC campaign is a critical early step.

PPC For Testing

Let’s say you have a site offering a service or product in the travel market. You’ve put together a healthy budget and decided to go for broke. Yep, you’re optimizing and trading links in an effort to go after keyword phrases with major traffic and competition. For instance, you’ve decided to have a go at “Europe travel”, which has roughly 400,000 searches each month and major competition for high rankings. You spend two years trading links, adding content and so on. Miracle of miracles, you pop on to the first page of search results. You start shopping for your private jet only to realize a very disturbing thing. You are getting thousands of visits, but few sales. After running calculations, you find the site is converting at 1 in 10,000.

Houston, we have a problem.

A PPC campaign should be used to test your site against keyword phrases before you spend the time and money on an seo campaign. The best platforms to use for your campaign are Google Adwords and Overture. Yes, click fraud is a problem, but less so on these platforms.

After opening accounts and laying a credit card down at the PPC alter, you need to give some thought at to how you will test your keywords. Here’s a hint. The campaign should be designed to test the keyword phrases, not maximize sales. This may sound like a strange statement, but keep in mind the purpose of the campaign. You are determining whether you have picked appropriate keyword phrases for the seo campaign. So, how does it all go wrong?

With both Overture and Adwords, you have the ability to designate the reach of your keyword phrases. Most pick the “broad match” option, which is terrible for testing. With broad match, your advertisements are going to appear for your keyword phrase AND variations of the phrase. Since the ad is appearing on a variety of keyword phrases, the results can give you a false impression of the value of the primary keyword phrase.

Going back to our example, we start a Google Adwords campaign for “Europe travel” and use the default broad match option. After a month, we are happy to find the ads converting at 1 in 70. Having validated the keyword phrase, we set off on the long seo campaign. But are we really sure about the validity of the keyword phrase. Since Google has been known to seriously expand keyword phrases under the broad match option, how do we know that the true keyword phrase isn’t “European travel”? We don’t unless we take a few additional steps.

The first step is to limit the PPC advertisements by bypassing the broad match option. Instead, you want to limit the appearance of the ad only to searches for the exact keyword phrase. In Adwords, this is known as the “exact phrase” match. To designate it, you simply place brackets “[]” around the keyword phrase. Second, you need to track traffic originating from the ads. This can be done using tracking tools on your server or through the tracking options offered by each PPC platform. Regardless of your choice, the resulting data will give a much truer picture of the value of the particular keyword phrases.

Nothing is more aggravating then getting top rankings, but miserable conversions. The only way to beat this problem is to test, test, test. Using PPC campaigns at the outset of an Internet marketing efforts can save you a lot of headaches later on.

This of course means that no one being referred from these sites are actually interested in your content or services, in worst case scenarios you may even end up being banned from search engines due to these malicious sites. Even if they are reputable companies it is hard to judge whether they will work for you, many of the smaller search engine companies simply do not get the traffic to give you value for money.

10 Adsense Tips for Maximum Click Through Rates

1) You should make your Adsense ads look as a part of your web page. They shouldn’t look like an Ad. People are negative to advertising. They search the internet for content not ads. What is your competition doing?

It is likely that your competitors who have a high PR (page rank) and continue to advertise, are doing something right. Learn from those who are successful. What should my title be for my PPC ad ?

Plain and simple use the keyword that is being searched on. Don’t get fancy or creative here. If someone is looking for diet drink then your ad title is ‘diet drink’.

The bidding war is on

Try your best not to get caught in the bidding war game. There are plenty of ways to drive traffic to your site without spending a fortune. General keywords will always have high prices like ‘dieting.’ Don’t fall for the trap. Most refined keywords will have lower priced bids but are excellent because they will target your traffic. A Website visitor may only be looking for diet recipes and dislike diet drinks. They are not your customer. Same for the website visitor who may want to tone-up while they are dieting. The more specific you can target your market, the better you will do.

Two other tips: If all the bids are around 25 cents and the lead bid is at $5.00, you know someone is trying to own the number 1 position. If you want to have fun bid $4.99 and they will get nailed $5.00 for every click and you will only pay 26 cents if they click on your ad. Warning though: if you want to play this game, keep an eye out so they don’t drop their bid. I sometimes do this as a temporary measure to bring someone back to fair playing grounds.

Secondly, keep any eye on all of your bids. People do change what they are willing to bid on any given keyword or search term. I do an overview every few days.

One last key to good pay per click advertising is testing your ads. You can set up two different campaigns and rotate them for the same period of time. What you might learn could surprise you and benefit your bank account!
